Cowgirls defeat ORU, 71-63, in Overtime

TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma State freshman Trisha Skibbe had a putback with 0.1 seconds remaining in regulation, and the Cowgirls scored 13 points in the overtime period for a 71-63 win here Friday night over Oral Roberts in the second game of the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic.
Oklahoma State trailed, 58-57, with 2:07 remaining in the game. After several missed shots by both teams, OSU's Machell Roberts went to the line with three seconds in regulation after a foul by Shannon Mims. Roberts hit the first, but missed the second to the right. Shelby Hutchens, who had been playing backcourt, raced up and picked up the loose ball, throwing it towards the basket. Skibbe, in one motion, grabbed the rebound for the putback.
Chantoya Hawkins led a balanced Cowgirl offense with 13 points, including three key three-pointers in the second half. Junior Kara Faulk had 10, as did Roberts. Hutchens and Jessica Spinner had nine points each, while Jessica Bates and Skibbe contributed eight to the total.
The Cowgirls led by as many as seven in the first half, and had their largest lead of the game at the 12:42 mark of the second stanza at 45-34. However, the Golden Eagles would not quit, and led by as many as five 56-51.
OSU pulled to within one at 56-55 on a trey by Hutchens. ORU's Krista Ragan took the lead to three with two of her 18 points on a pair of free throws. With the shot clock off, the Cowgirls attempted a three pointer, but were shut down, and Roberts was forced to shoot a short jumper.
Oklahoma State (1-0) will play Tulsa in the third game of the tournament on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Mabee Center.
