Women's Hoops Falls To Tulsa, 72-69

NORMAN, Okla. - Tulsa's Lila Osceola scored a game-high 23 points and the Golden Hurricane forced 24 Oklahoma State turnovers as TU defeated OSU, 72-69, in the first game of the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic here Sunday night in the Lloyd Noble Center.
Oklahoma State trailed, 40-36, at halftime despite shooting 50 percent in the first period. The Cowgirls were 13-of-26 from the field, and a perfect 9-of-9 from the line. However, they could only muster 1-of-8 from behind the arc. TU, meanwhile, shot 55.6 percent (15-of-27) in the first half, including three three pointers.
OSU took control in the second half, going on a 9-4 run to start the final period. Tulsa lived a the line, scoring eight straight points from the charity stripe, including seven by Leela Farr, with 7:13 remaining in the game. The Cowgirls went on a 5-0 run to go up by 10 points with six minutes remaining, and then the full-court pressure got to OSU.
Oklahoma State led by eight at 67-59 with 4:40 remaining in the game, but an 8-0 run mostly off turnovers, took the Golden Hurricane to a 67-67 tie with 2:55 left. A pair of free throws by senior Jennifer Crow, tying the school record for consecutive free throws with 28, put the Cowgirls ahead, 69-67.
TU tied the score with a steal and layup by Kasie Pittman with 2:25 remaining, and another turnover by the Cowgirls gave the ball to Tulsa with 1:30 to go. TU scored on another Pittman bucket to go ahead for good at 71-69. A free throw by Osceola with 19 seconds put Tulsa up by three.
OSU freshman Chantoya Hawkins drove the length of the court in the final 10 seconds, but was caught in midair trying to pass the ball to Crow along the baseline, and turned it over.
The Cowgirls (2-2) will play Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. Monday evening. The Golden Eagles (1-1) played Oklahoma Sunday night.
