Cowboys open Puerto Rican tour with 94-88 win

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Jordan Burks scored 16 points to lead five Cowboys in double figures as Oklahoma State opened its three-game foreign exhibition tour with a 94-88 victory over Puerto Rico Fuerza on Sunday evening at Guillermo Angulo Coliseum.
Fuerza, a select team featuring players from Puerto Rico's top professional league, was led by former Texas A&M standout Chinemelu Elonu's 18 points and eight rebounds.
Playing under FIBA rules, Oklahoma State used its size and depth to build a 51-34 rebounding advantage. Head coach Steve Lutz used his entire 14-man roster, including 10 players making their unofficial OSU debuts.
Burks, a 6-foot-9 transfer from UCF, was joined in double figures by Andrija Grbovic with 13 points and eight rebounds, Kashie Natt with 11 points and three steals, Jacob Walker with 11 points and Mekhi Ragland with 10 points and six rebounds.
Natt and freshman Anthony Felesi recorded three steals apiece as the Cowboys forced 13 turnovers.
Felesi's steal and dunk sparked an early 10-0 run, and Natt's buzzer-beating three-pointer gave Oklahoma State a 23-16 lead after one quarter. The margin grew to 13 midway through the second.
Walker, a sophomore guard who played alongside Natt last season at Sam Houston, scored all 11 of his points before halftime but fouled out after playing just three second-half minutes.
Fuerza scored five points in the final 11 seconds of the half, including a buzzer-beater that trimmed OSU's lead to 46-40.
The hosts continued their rally and moved ahead 60-59 on Evander Ortiz's jumper with 2:00 left in the third quarter. Oklahoma State responded with a Luka Bogavac baseline jumper and a Natt tip-in to begin a 10-3 run that closed the period.
The Cowboys carried that momentum into the fourth. Ragland, one of four OSU returners, scored six points during an 11-1 run that turned a one-possession game into an 83-70 lead with just over six minutes remaining.
Fuerza made one final push, pulling within 88-86 with 2:31 left, but Burks answered with a three-pointer. The Cowboys held the hosts scoreless over the final two minutes to secure the win.
Oklahoma State shot 45.8%, including 9-of-19 from three-point range, while Fuerza finished at 41.3% overall and 6-of-27 from deep. The hosts went 30-of-39 at the foul line compared to OSU's 19-of-25.
The teams will meet again at 7 p.m. CT Monday at the same venue. The game will stream free on BallerTV through its app and website.
