STILLWATER - Oklahoma State's men tennis team returned to action with its second shutout win of the day on Friday evening at the Greenwood Tennis Center.Â
OSU improved to 5-2 on the season, while Creighton dropped to 4-2 on the year.Â
The Cowboys are now a combined 5-0 at home this season, winning every match by a score of 7-0. This is the first time since 1958 that the Cowboys have won five of their first seven matches in shutout fashion and their 41 total points are the most since the 2000 season.
The Cowboys made quick work of the Blue Jays when it came to the doubles point. Speeding through in just 26 minutes, the Cowboys took courts two and three, each with a score of 6-1.Â
OSU's Alessio Basile and Ian Bracks, playing in just their second match as a pairing, took down Creighton's Mathis Dahler and Zachary Kuo, while the Poke pairing of Aaron Williams and Nicolas Kobelt improved to 6-1 as doubles partners, defeating CU's Yuma Daijima and Kirtan Patel. Court one went unfinished.
Heading into singles play, all six courts were first to score against the Blue Jays. Court three wrapped up quickly with Williams improving to 7-0 on the season, taking down Creighton's Rocky Mckenzie, 6-0, 6-3. Moving down to court five, Kobelt kept the momentum going, winning his match shortly after with a score of 6-2, 6-3 against Kuo.Â
On court two, OSU junior Derek Pham sealed the win for the Cowboys versus Patel, 6-1, 6-2, marking his second win of the season. Not long after, Bracks clinched a victory against Mathis Dahler, 6-3, 6-3, on court four.Â
With the team win in hand, Basile secured his match against Daijima, 6-1, 6-4. OSU freshman Charlie Valentine played a tight first set against Creighton's Jack McMahon, but pulled away in the second, 7-6(4), 6-2.Â
