Oklahoma State from a Distance
Following a strong showing at the Clearwater Invitational two weeks ago, Oklahoma State rode that momentum into San Marcos for the River State Classic and dominated the competition. The Cowgirls outscored their five opponents by a combined margin of 58-1 in five games and three Cowgirls received Big 12 weekly recognition for their performances (Ruby Meylan, Claire Timm and Gabby Castillo).Â
Timm has provided a consistent presence at the plate through the first three weeks, leading the team in batting average (.485), hits (16), triples (two) and slugging percentage (.818). Senior catcher Amanda Hasler has been a powerful force at the plate with seven extra-base hits and 23 runs batted in. Juniors Rosie Davis, Karli Godwin and Tia Warsop have all been steady contributors at the plate as well. Freshmen Aubrey Jones and Jayelle Austin have made immediate impacts, with the former third on the team in batting average (.364) while the latter leads the team in long balls (four).Â
Meylan is coming off her first career-no hitter and allowed only one hit in 12.0 innings of work spread over two games last weekend. Preslee Downing has been dominant so far in her first season in Stillwater, posting a 3-0 record with a team-best 1.26 ERA and 12 strikeouts to just three walks. Senior RyLee Crandall has looked steady in her four starts on the year with a 4-0 record and a 3.99 ERA.Â
