STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball bounced back with a 67-51 win over BYU on Wednesday night inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.Â
With the win, OSU moved to 17-5 on the year and 6-3 in Big 12 action. BYU dipped to 15-6 and 4-5 in conference play.Â
The first quarter started off with a Micah Gray three to get her 1600th career point in college. It was then a back and forth for the first seven minutes until the Cougars went on a 13-7 run to end the half, as Achol Akot would knock down two free throws to hold the Cougar lead to 25-16Â going into the second.Â
It was all Cowgirls in the second quarter, with Gray hitting four threes to add to her 14 points in the second quarter alone. Stailee Heard and Amari Whiting would also add threes to help the Pokes come back and take an 11-point lead going into the half. OSU also played incredible defense, led by Whiting's three blocks, only allowing the Cougars to score three points in the quarter and go into halftime up 39-28.Â
OSU came out swinging to start the third, going on a seven-point run to increase the lead to 18. It was once again a battle as the Cougars tried to get a comeback brewing, but the Cowgirls would answer everything to hold their lead at 14 going into the final quarter.Â
The Pokes went on another big run to start the fourth quarter, as Haleigh Timmer knocked down a three to make it a 22-point lead and to increase the run to 10. It was all defense from there, with Heard getting some big steals and not allowing BYU to come back as they made just two field goals in the entire fourth quarter.Â
Gray led the team in scoring with 26 points aided by her seven threes; it was a career day for Whiting as she had a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Akot's 14 rebounds tied her career high and Heard's 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists were key to the victory.
This win marks the 900th win in program history. The win also adds to the Cowgirls' dominance at home, moving them to 12-1 on home court.Â
