Julian Cash Captures Wimbledon Doubles Title

LONDON – Former Oklahoma State tennis standout Julian Cash partnered with Lloyd Glasspool to make history on Saturday, defeating Rinky Hijikata and David Pel in straight sets to lift the Wimbledon gentleman's doubles trophy.
Cash, who earned All-America honors in doubles and was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year while competing for the Cowboys, and Glasspool recorded a 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory to claim their first Grand Slam title.
"I would like to say I loved every minute. Got a little bit closer than I would have liked, but amazing to get across the line," Cash said. "To win our first Slam here together is amazing."
The duo, which entered the event as the No. 5 seed, had already made history after becoming the first all-British pair of the Open era to reach the Wimbledon championship match.
The pairing also became the first British duo in 89 years to claim the title. Additionally, the victory extended their winning streak to 14 matches in a row.
The road to the final for Cash and Glasspool included a victory over the No. 2 seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten in the quarterfinals. A victory over No. 4 seeds Marcel Granoliers and Horacio Zeballos sent them into their fourth consecutive final as a team.
Cash and Glasspool have now won six titles together with three of those coming on grass and three occurring on hard courts.
