Cowgirl Tennis Set to Conclude Regular Season at Kansas, Iowa State

No. 19 Oklahoma State will conclude its regular season schedule on the road this weekend, beginning with a match against No. 39 Kansas on Friday at 5 p.m. before meeting No. 65 Iowa State on Sunday at noon. The Cowgirls have won nine consecutive matches to get to 16-6 on the season and hold a share of the lead in the Big 12 conference with a 10-1 mark, tying them with UCF and Texas Tech. OSU has relinquished just seven points during its win streak, collecting four shutouts in the process. Oklahoma State's two opponents this weekend met one another last Saturday, with Kansas coming out on top, 4-2. The Jayhawks have won two of their last three while the Cyclones enter the weekend with a four-match losing streak.

After two more wins last weekend, Oklahoma State moved up one spot to No. 19 in the ITA team rankings. OSU is one of 11 Big 12 teams to be recognized, joining Texas Tech (15), UCF (20), Baylor (23), Arizona (30), Arizona State (33), Kansas (39), TCU (40), Kansas State (53), Iowa State (65) and BYU (67). In the individual rankings, Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp remained in the top 10 at No. 9 in the doubles poll. In singles, Komar came in at No. 65, while Gracie Epps appeared at No. 70, Marcela Lopez at No. 115 and Nijkamp made her first appearance of the season at No. 121.Â
The Matchup
Oklahoma State is 41-17 all-time against Kansas, including wins in 18 of the last 19 matches. The Cowgirls are 17-7 in matches played in Lawrence with wins in each of the last two played there. Against Iowa State, OSU is 46-1 all-time with a 19-0 mark in Ames. Iowa State's lone win in the series came in 2023, with the Cowgirls responding with a 7-0 win in Stillwater last season.Â
CY Stands Alone
After Thursday's win over Utah, Oklahoma State head coach Chris Young stands alone as the all-time wins leader in program history. In his 16th year at OSU, Young secured his 284th win, moving him past Julius Lubicz-Majewski for the most as the Cowgirls head coach. Young accumulated the record total in just 402 matches, for a winning percentage of .706, and began adding to it with another win on Saturday. In his time in Stillwater, Young has led the Cowgirls to 12 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances while collecting an ITA Indoor National title, three Big 12 regular season championships, two Big 12 tournament titles and an NCAA runner-up finish in 2016.Â
Big 12's Best
In two of the last three weeks, an Oklahoma State athlete has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week. Anastasiya Komar was the first to earn the honor, as the redshirt junior is now 12-6 on the season in singles with wins in seven of her last eight matches. Rose Marie Nijkamp followed that by garnering the award herself as she continues to lead all Big 12 freshman with 14 singles dual wins. The pair is also 17-2 as a doubles pairing and has yet to lose a match during conference play, vaulting them to No. 9 in the ITA doubles rankings.Â
Getting Hot at the Right Time
Oklahoma State has put together a season-best nine-match win streak and is 10-1 in conference play after two more wins over the weekend. This is the second consecutive season and fourth time in program history that OSU has won at least 10 conference matches. The Cowgirls now sit in a three-way tie at the top of the Big 12 standings with UCF and Texas Tech.Â
