Cowboy Tennis Downs BYU, Advances to Big 12 Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas – Oklahoma State's eighth-seeded men's tennis team defeated ninth-seeded BYU, 4-3, in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship on Thursday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center.Â

The win improves the Cowboys to 10-14 on the season, while the loss drops the Cougars to 12-10 on the year. Additionally, it is the third-straight season the Cowboys have advanced to the quarterfinals at the Big 12 Championship.Â

After dropping the first set, Ben Stecker rallied to win back-to-back sets to clinch the match for the Cowboys with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory.Â

No. 78 Isaac Becroft collected his fifth-straight win with his 6-1, 6-4 victory over Wally Thayne. Becroft defeated Thayne in straight sets in both of their meetings this season.Â

Ian Bracks tallied OSU's first point with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win over Redd Owen to tie the match at one after the Cowboys dropped a tightly contested doubles point in a tiebreaker. Bracks joins Derek Pham with 12 wins to lead the Cowboys on the year.Â

OSU's Alessio Basile pushed the match to the brink, taking down Adam Chodur, 6-4, 7-6 (3).Â
