Cowboy Tennis' Upset Bid Falls Short

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team dropped its final match of the regular season, falling to No. 18 UCF, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

The win improves the Knights to 18-7 overall and 4-3 in the Big 12, while the loss drops the Cowboys to 9-14 overall and 1-6 in league play.Â

The Cowboys jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match in doubles action, as Nicolas Kobelt and Finn Hopfe defeated Paul Colin and Nicolas Oliveria, 6-3, and Isaac Becroft and Alessio Basile bested Yassine Dlimi and Emilio Sanchez, 6-3.Â

In his final match on his home courts, No. 84 Becroft defeated No. 77 Dlimi, 6-2, 6-3, for his 37th win as a Cowboy, making him the winningest Cowboy in the Dustin Taylor era. The captain has won four straight matches, two of them over higher-ranked opponents. Becroft joins Derek Pham and Ian Bracks with double-digit win totals on the season.Â

Kobelt also tallied a win, as he took down Oliveria, 6-1, 6-3, for his seventh win of the season.Â

Up 3-2, OSU's Bracks trailed Santiago Giamichelle, 6-3, 5-4, as Giamichelle aimed to knot the match at three. Bracks fought off three match points to extend the match two more games before eventually falling, 7-5.Â

The match came down to court six, where UCF's Sanchez led Ben Stecker, 7-6 (3), 4-2. Despite rallying to get the match to 4-4, Sanchez clinched the match for the Knights at 6-4.Â

OSU heads to Waco, Texas, for the Big 12 Championship on April 17-20 at the Hurd Tennis Center. Seeding for the tournament will be released as soon as they are made available.Â
