Cowboys Improve to 13-0 With Win at No. 16 Little Rock
February 08, 2025 | Cowboy Wrestling
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The No. 2 Oklahoma State wrestling team defeated No. 16 Little Rock, 25-13, on Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center to keep its perfect season intact at 13-0. With the loss, Little Rock dropped to 14-3.
"Got a little tougher than what we had hoped, but that's wrestling," head coach David Taylor said. "We were able to figure it out at the end. Momentum was shifting back and forth, but we were tough on top and that resilience showed."
Cowboy wrestlers won seven of 10 matches Saturday, highlighted by another strong effort from the back half of the lineup and a top-five win at 197 pounds. With just one dual remaining in the regular season, Oklahoma State is beating opponents by an average of 25.3 points, which would rank ninth in program history.
Notably, Saturday's crowd of 2,143 was the highest in the history of the Little Rock program, marking the third time this season Oklahoma State has been the visiting team for an opponent's attendance record. The first two times came on November 15 at Utah Valley and January 24 at Northern Iowa.
Luke Surber put together the performance of the dual at 197 pounds, knocking off 2024 All-American and fifth-ranked Stephen Little, 5-4. The two wrestlers traded takedowns and were tied at four apiece before Surber rode Little out for the entire third period, earning him the upset with riding time. The win improved Surber's record to 19-1 and was his third ever against a top-five wrestler.
The bookends of the Cowboy lineup, Troy Spratley and Wyatt Hendrickson, made quick work of their competition at 125 and 285 pounds, respectively. Both Cowboys cruised to technical falls without allowing more than a single escape.
Cameron Amine and Dustin Plott posted decisive wins over ranked opponents that were crucial to the Cowboy comeback. Amine has now won seven of his last eight bouts and beaten nine ranked wrestlers on the year, while Plott's 8-2 decision over No. 17 Brock DelSignore improved his season record to 15-2.
Although it wasn't in bonus-point fashion like they've become accustomed to, Tagen Jamison and Dean Hamiti Jr. also added wins at 141 and 174 pounds, respectively. Hamiti did so through two takedowns in the opening period, while Jamison secured a lead he would never relinquish in period two. Ranked fourth in this week's NCAA Most Dominant Wrestler Award standings, Hamiti has won all 18 of his matches on the year.
The Cowboys have two weeks off until they close the regular season at No. 3 Iowa on Sunday, February 23. The dual is slated for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
