STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Men's Indoor Track & Field jumped 17 spots to No. 14 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) National Rating, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Cowboys' rise in the rankings is largely due to the Distance Medley Relay squad of Brian Musau, Jordon Smith, Mehdi Yanouri and Ryan Schoppe running the third-fastest mark in the country of 9:16.24, which is officially the second-best mark in world history on legal-size tracks.
OSU has 55.18 ranking points this week, largely from the DMR (17.82), Brian Musau in the 5,000 Meters (No. 5, 13.52 points), Fouad Messaoudi in the Mile (No. 6, 10.72), Denis Kipngetich in the 5,000 Meters (No. 11, 5.63) and Laban Kipkemboi in the Mile (No. 12, 4.53).
Heading into postseason action, the quintet currently hold qualifying position for the NCAA Indoor Championships next month, with the top 16 individuals and top 12 relays in each event earning bids. As for the conference meet, four teams enter the Big 12 Championships ranked, with Texas Tech, OSU, Cincinnati and Baylor sitting at No. 5, 14, 21 and 25, respectively.
The Big 12 Indoor Championships will be held in Lubbock, Texas, from Feb. 28-March 1 at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
