Cowgirl Golf closes out day one at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational
February 16, 2025 | Cowgirl Golf
Sarasota, Fla. - The 24th-ranked Oklahoma State women's golf team closed out day one of the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational in a tie for 11th place at Palm Aire Country Club's Champions Course.
Â
Windy and rainy conditions made it tough for the field. After a high-scoring first round, the Cowgirls bounced back and fired a 2-over, team score of 290 in the second round. Heading into tomorrow's final round, the Cowgirls sit 17 strokes behind first-place Oklahoma.
Â
Grace Kilcrease worked through the treacherous conditions. She put up an opening round 74 and followed with an even-par round of 72. She sits in a tie for 23rd place.
Â
Kilcrease has not finished outside the top 10 in any of the six tournaments she has played since becoming a Cowgirl. If she reaches seven tomorrow, it would be the longest streak to open a career at OSU and the fourth longest streak overall in recorded program history. She is just three strokes back of a spot in the top 10.
Â
Ellie Bushnell continued her strong spring campaign with an even-par 72 to start the day. She landed at 2-over heading into the final round. Marta Silchenko, who is playing in her first tournament in the lineup this season after coming off an injury, played consistently throughout the windy day. Silchenko shot a 76 in the first round before bouncing back in a big way by firing a 2-under, 70 in the second round. She sits in the same position as Kilcrease and Bushnell at 23rd.
Â
Sammie Miller and Thitaporn Saithip both went 9-over for the day and sit in a tie for 64th.
Â
The lone freshman for the Cowgirls, Texas State Invitational champion Summer Lee, who is competing as an individual this week, had a solid day of scoring even with the rough conditions, firing rounds of 74 and 73. Lee sits in 31st place heading into tomorrow's final round.
Â
The Cowgirls tee it up at 8:15 a.m. (CST) with a shotgun start for the final round. Scoring is available at golfstat.com.
