Cowboys crush competition at Big 12 Cross Country Championships; Brian Musau makes history as second three-time individual champion
October 31, 2025 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country competed at the Big 12 Championships in Lawrence, Kan., with the Cowboys bringing home their fifth cross country conference title in the past six years.
Brian Musau exploded onto the field for the Cowboys, taking the lead in the second half of the race and pulling away over the final 1,000 Meters to win his third consecutive cross country conference title in 22:53.7. Musau is just the second man in Big 12 history to win the individual title in three straight seasons, joining Colorado's Jorge Torres, who did so from 2000-02. His win also marks the fourth consecutive individual title by a Cowboy, with Alex Maier winning in 2022.
In the team race, the Cowboys rolled to victory with a stunning total of 20 points, the lowest total by a Big 12 team since the OSU men broke the conference record with 19 points in 2010 (that team later won the NCAA championship). Overall, the Cowboys beat out three nationally-ranked teams to take home the win, including No. 1 Iowa State.
Junior Adisu Guadie moved through the field, from 31st at the 3K split to second by the end, nearly passing Musau over the final 200 meters. Denis Kipngetch, Fouad Messaoudi and Ryan Schoppe earned fourth, sixth and seventh-place finishes, respectively, to give the Cowboys a dominant victory.
On the women's side, the Cowgirls finished fourth in the team standings with a total of 86 points. Isca Chelangat was the first Cowgirl to cross the line, taking fourth with a time of 19:20.0. Maureen Rutoh and Victoria Lagat followed with finishes of ninth and 18th, respectively, while Billah Jepkirui and Jinane Mahi took 26th and 32nd to wrap up the Cowgirls scorers. The 11th-ranked Cowgirls finished behind No. 1 BYU, No. 6 Iowa State and tied with No. 7 West Virginia, with WVU winning the tiebreaker.
Postseason action continues for the Cowboys and Cowgirls at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater on Nov. 14. At last year's regional meet, the Cowboys and Cowgirls swept the team titles with Kipngetich entering as the back-to-back regional champion
