Kilcrease shoots best round in Cowgirl Golf history at Schooner Fall Classic
September 23, 2024 | Cowgirl Golf
Norman, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's golf team finished the rain-delayed Schooner Fall Classic with a record-setting round from Grace Kilcrease and the team on Monday afternoon at Belmar Golf Club.
Kilcrease, already having won the Carmel Cup earlier this month, became the new low-round record holder in program history. The junior shot a 63, besting the 64s fired by Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, Amy Ruengmatakhun and Jayde Panos. Hinson-Tolchard shot her 64 at last year's Schooner Fall Classic. The round put Kilcrease in a tie for eighth overall.
Kilcrease tally was also 7-under par, which is the second-best round vs par in program history. Jayde Panos posted an 8-under score back in 2011. The program's most recent 7-under was by Hinson-Tolchard in 2022.
"She (Kilcrease) has just been incredible with everything from her work ethic to being a teammate," Cowgirl head coach Greg Robertson said. "What she's doing in tournaments, I couldn't ask for anything more."
The team didn't just rely on Kilcrease on Monday. The Cowgirls shot a team score of 271, the third-best round of the day in the 16-team field. The score of 271 tied for the third lowest round by score in program history.
The historic day placed the Pokes in a tie for seventh with Iowa State. The rainy day put OSU 13 strokes behind Houston, which placed first. The tournament was shortened to a 36-hole stroke play format after the cancellation of round two due to rain on Sunday.
Freshman Lucy Darr put up another career-best round with a 1-under 69. The score marked her first time breaking par in her young career. She shot five strokes better than the Saturday, where the temperature was nearly 30 degrees warmer.
Ellie Bushnell matched Darr, putting up another 69. After a double-bogey early on, Bushnell went on to nab multiple birdies to put her in a tie for 37th. Just like Darr, she improved by five strokes in the cooler conditions.
Thitaporn Saithip had a solid day, shooting even par, a three-stroke improvement from Saturday. Freshman Rylee Roberts concluded her first collegiate tournament with a 77.
On the individual side of things, freshman Summer Lee shined. She fired a 68, improving her career-best that she shot on Saturday. The performance gave the young Cowgirl a 15th-place finish.
Sammie Miller also competed as an individual and shot a solid 72.
The Cowgirls will be back in action at the Dale McNamara Invitational on Oct. 14.
