Former Cowgirl Maja Stark Set to Represent Sweden at Olympics
August 06, 2024 | Cowgirl Golf
SAINT-QUENTIN-EN-YVELINES, France – Former Cowgirl Maja Stark will play for more than herself this week as she represents Sweden at the 2024 Paris Olympics from August 7-10.
Stark, who played at Oklahoma State from 2019-21, qualified for Olympic play after finishing 18th in the Olympic Golf Rankings (OGR). With a maximum of four golfers per country, the OGR granted eligibility to the top 15 world-ranked players before using Rolex Rankings to fill out the field of 60.
The format for golf is a 72-hole individual stroke play event. Unlike most tournaments, there is no halfway cut so all 60 women should play all four rounds.
A native of Abbekas, Sweden, Stark joins Linn Grant as golfers set to represent Sweden on Le Golf National's par 72, 6,374-yard layout. She also becomes the third Cowgirl golfer to grace the Olympic stage, joining Pernilla Lindberg (Sweden) and Caroline Masson (Germany) in the honor.
Oklahoma State women's golf is one of 11 programs in the nation to carry Olympic representation in each Summer Games since the sport's reinstatement in 2016. Across both programs, OSU is the only school to field men's and women's golfers in each Summer Games since golf's return.
Stark, a three-time winner in two years at OSU, played a crucial role in the program's runner-up finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships. During that season, she posted OSU's best single-season scoring average (70.48) en route to WGCA First-Team All-American honors and the Big 12 Player of the Year award.
A six-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, she joined the LPGA in 2022, securing victory at the 2022 ISPS Handa World Invitational presented by AVIA Clinics, and helped Team Europe retain the 2023 Solheim Cup. The 24-year-old has three top-three finishes in 2024, including a runner-up finish at the Chevron Championship.
Stark opens play Wednesday at 5:06 a.m. CT in a featured group alongside Lydia Ko (Australia) and Miyu Yamashita (Japan). The second round sees the grouping start at 3:11 a.m.
