Cowboy Outdoor Track & Field Wraps Up Regular Season with Stellar Performances at Arkansas Twilight
May 04, 2024 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma State outdoor track & field completed regular season action Friday at the Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, Ark., with several Cowboys and Cowgirls earning regional qualifying marks in their respective events.
Winny Bii highlighted the performances on Friday, setting the fourth-best mark in the NCAA this season in the Triple Jump with her leap of 13.49 meters. Bii continues her dominant form as she is fresh off an indoor season that included a Big 12 individual title and first team All-America honors in the Triple Jump and a silver medal at the 2024 African Games in Ghana in her outdoor season debut.
Bumping up from his usual event, DJ McArthur became just the third Cowboy in program history to break under 1:48.00 in the 800 Meters as he took home the victory with his time of 1:47.89. McArthur defeated a field that included multiple first team All-Americans and an NCAA Champion in teammate Fouad Messaoudi. With his performance Friday, the 400 Meter star for OSU will now have the option to run either the 400 or 800 Meters at the NCAA West Prelims for a chance to qualify for nationals.
In a pre-conference tune-up, Messaoudi contested the 800 Meters for the first time in a Cowboy uniform and ran a time of 1:48.76, which puts him tenth in program history.
The women's middle-distance crew continued the impressive performances in the 800 Meters, with six separate Cowgirls earning new personal bests. Cowgirl superstar Billah Jepkirui dropped down in distance for the first time this season, running the fifth-fastest time in program history of 2:02.63. Jepkirui's time sits behind only reigning NCAA runner-up and teammate Gabija Galvydyte and a trio of Cowgirl national champions in Sinclaire Johnson, Natalja Piliusina and Kaela Edwards.
In the same race, Kaylie Politza and Grace Boone also set new personal bests and earned regional qualifying marks with their times of 2:04.72 and 2:05.06, respectively.
Later in the day, three more Cowboys dropped new personal bests in the 1,500 Meters as Kian Davis, Ayden Granados and Jonas Price ran times of 3:40.53, 3:40.58 and 3:44.11, respectively. As a true freshman, Granados has lowered his PR in the 1,500 Meters by nearly 11 seconds overall and has earned himself a regional qualifying mark in his first season with the Cowboys.
Rounding out the night, the Cowboys 4x400 Meter Relay squad of Jordon Smith, Darian Tarver, Caio Almeida and McArthur dropped the third-fastest time in OSU history with their winning time of 3:05.70.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls kick off postseason action next weekend at the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Waco, Texas, from May 9-11.
