OSU Track & Field Qualifies Thirty-Three Athletes for NCAA West Prelims

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State outdoor track & field has officially qualified 33 athletes for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Ark., next week.
The top 48 athletes in each individual event qualify for prelims with the top 12 individuals and relays from each of the two regions advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., in June.
The Cowgirls qualified 17 individuals across nine different events with the Cowboys adding 15 individuals in addition to the 4x400 Meter Relay. Along with the 33 regional qualifiers, Bailey Golden and Olivija Vaitaityte have already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the Heptathlon as two of the 24 scoring athletes in the event this season.
On the women's side, Tamara Woodley (400 Meters), Gabija Galvydyte (800 Meters), Kaylie Politza (800 Meters), Madi Surber (800 Meters), Billah Jepkirui (1,500 Meters), Cameron McConnell (1,500 Meters), Grace Boone (1,500 Meters), Lilly Lavier (1,500 Meters), Stephanie Moss (1,500 Meters), Taylor Roe (5,000 & 10,000 Meters), Victoria Lagat (5,000 Meters), Gabby Hentemann (10,000 Meters), Molly Born (10,000 Meters), Payton Hinkle (Steeplechase), Saara Hakanen (High Jump), Winny Bii (Triple Jump) and Rachel Neaves (Hammer Throw) will all be competing in Fayetteville with a national championship berth on the line.
For the Cowboys, Caio Almeida (400 Meter Hurdles), DJ McArthur (800 Meters), Hafez Mahadi (800 Meters), Mehdi Yanouri (800 Meters), Alex Stitt (1,500 Meters), Ayden Granados (1,500 Meters), Fouad Messaoudi (1,500 Meters), Kian Davis (1,500 Meters), Alex Maier (5,000 & 10,000 Meters), Brian Musau (5,000 Meters), Will Muirhead (5,000 Meters), Adisu Guadie (10,000 Meters), Denis Kipngetich (10,000 Meters), Victor Shitsama (Steeplechase), Blair Anderson (Long Jump) and the men's 4x400 Meter Relay squad all qualified in their respective events.
Heading into the postseason, several Cowboys and Cowgirls rank in the top 10 in the NCAA in their respective events. In just his freshman season, Musau enters postseason play No. 1 in the NCAA in the 5,000 Meters with his school-record time of 13:13.29 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in April. The defending NCAA 800 Meter outdoor runner-up Galvydyte currently sits fourth in the NCAA with her time of 2:00.42 set last week at the Big 12 Championships.
Messaoudi (No. 5, 1,500 Meters), Bii (No. 6, Triple Jump), Jepkirui (No. 8, 1,500 Meters), Shitsama (No. 8, Steeplechase), Golden (No. 8, Heptathlon) and Guadie (No. 9, 10,000 Meters) round out the rest of the OSU athletes ranked in the top 10 overall.
Oklahoma State athletes ranked well outside the top 12 in their events during the regular season routinely outperform their rankings and punch their tickets to the national championships. Just last season, Molly Born was ranked No. 32 in the women's 10,000 Meters in the West region before placing eighth at West Prelims and 13th at NCAAs for second team All-America honors.
