April 16, 2024 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's and women's outdoor track & field each appeared in the Top-25 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index for the first time this season at No. 11 and No. 14, respectively, the organization announced Tuesday.
This is just the second time both the Cowboys and Cowgirls are ranked inside the top 15 overall during the outdoor season, the first being during weeks 1-3 of the 2015 season. The Cowboys' ranking is also the highest for the program since 2014, when they finished the regular season ranked No. 8. The Cowgirls are back in the top 25 outdoors for just the second time in the regular season since 2016.
For the Cowboys, Brian Musau leads the charge as he leads the NCAA in the men's 5,000 Meters, with his time of 13:13.29 at the Bryan Clay Invitational also serving as the best 5K time in the world thus far in the 2024 outdoor season. Joining Musau in the top 5 is two-time NCAA champion Fouad Messaoudi, who currently sits fourth in the 1,500 Meters with a mark of 3:36.08. Victor Shitsama (No. 8, Steeplechase), Caio Almeida (No. 9, 400 Meter Hurdles) and Adisu Guadie (No. 10, 10,000 Meters) give the OSU men five top-10 marks on the season thus far.
On the women's side, Bailey Golden ranks third in the NCAA in the Heptathlon with her score of 5,887 points at the Jim Click Shootout in Arizona. Golden was subsequently named Big 12 Athlete of the Week for her performance and leads the Cowgirls in the ratings index. Behind her is Billah Jepkirui, who is fifth in the NCAA in the 1,500 Meters with her time of 4:08.93 set this past weekend. At the same meet, Gabija Galvydyte earned a pair of top-10 marks in the NCAA as she currently sits eighth in the country in both the 800 and 1,500 Meters with times of 2:01.89 and 4:10.53, respectively. Rounding out the top-10 for the Cowgirls is 2022 indoor 3,000 Meter champion Taylor Roe, who is tenth in the 5,000 Meters.
The 2023-24 season has been a banner year for the program thus far, with all four teams (Men's and Women's Cross Country and Indoor Track & Field) each placing in the top 10 at the national meet for the first time in school history in addition to the men's cross country team securing its fifth NCAA title.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will return to action this weekend with trips to Waco, Texas, and Fayetteville, Ark., for the second time this season for the Michael Johnson and John McDonnell Invitationals.
