Cowboy Tennis Topples Texas Tech, 4-1

 LUBBOCK, Texas – The 25th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team cruised past conference foe Texas Tech, 4-1, on Saturday at the McLeod Tennis Center.Â

The Pokes improved to 15-4 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 action. The win also extended OSU's winning streak to four.

In their first finished match as a pairing, Erik Schiessl and Francisco Pini recorded their first win over Texas Tech's Lorenzo Esquici and Olle Wallin, 6-3, to give the Pokes a slight advantage.

The Red Raiders responded with 41st-ranked Piotr Pawlak and Sebastian Abboud beating OSU's Alex Garcia and Tyler Zink, 6-4.

In a closely contested match that was tied at 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5, the court two matchup saw TTU's Reed Collier and Takeyasu Sekiguchi drop Isaac Becroft and Alessio Basile, 7-6(4) in a tiebreaker.Â

OSU bounced back to win all six first sets in singles action, including tiebreaking victories from Zink and Garcia.Â

Pini put the Pokes on the board when he downed Sekiguchi, 6-2, 6-2, marking his third-straight win in singles action.Â

Schiessl gave OSU a 2-1 lead, beating Niksa Arsic, 6-3, 6-3. A minute later, OSU's No. 70 Becroft followed with a 6-4, 7-5, win over Collier. He improved to 14-1 on the season.

Soon after, No. 77 Garcia clinched the match for the Pokes when he dropped Texas Tech's Esquici, 7-6(4), 6-1.

No. 18 Zink's match went unfinished in the second set after he battled to win a gritty first-set tiebreaker, 11-9. Basile's match went unfinished on court five in the third set.Â

The Cowboys return to action on Thursday against UCF at 6 p.m. CT in Orlando, Florida.Â
