STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country each moved up in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll heading into the NCAA Championships this week, the organization announced Monday.
The Cowboys remained in the No. 2 spot overall, but added a first-place vote following a dominant performance at the NCAA Midwest Regional this past weekend. OSU scored just 25 points on the day, led by Denis Kipngetich, who became the first Cowboy in program history to win back-to-back individual regional titles on the grass. Six Cowboys picked up All-Region honors as Laban Kipkemboi (2nd), Brian Musau (6th), Victor Shitsama (7th), Adisu Guadie (12th) and Alex Stitt (17th) each placed in the top 20 overall.
On the women's side, the Cowgirls moved up three spots in the rankings to No. 16 after they collected their third straight regional title as a team. Four Cowgirls earned All-Region honors as Josphine Mwaura (4th), Victoria Lagat (7th), Sivan Auerbach (10th) and Colleen Stegmann (13th) each finished in the top 15.
Both teams punched their tickets to the NCAA Cross Country Championships with their victories at the NCAA Midwest Regionals and are set to compete at the NCAA Championships this weekend in Madison, Wisconsin.
