Wright notches 2,000 career points at No. 8 Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – John-Michael Wright recorded his 2,000th career point, but Oklahoma State fell 83-54 to No. 8 Kansas on Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
Wright, who entered the day with 1,990 points in parts of five seasons at OSU and High Point, added 16 to his total on 4-of-10 three-point shooting. He reached the milestone on a triple with 16:33 to play in the second half.
Brandon Garrison added 11 points and Connor Dow grabbed a career-high seven rebounds for OSU (9-12, 1-7 Big 12).
Kansas' Hunter Dickinson, a Michigan transfer, also reached 2,000th career points late in the first half.
According to College Basketball Reference, Dickinson and Wright are the 666th and 667th 2,000-point scorers in Division I history and likely the first to do it in the same game.
Dickinson finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. K.J. Adams Jr. added 16 more on 7-of-7 shooting.
The Jayhawks shot 57.6% to OSU's 29.3%, helped by a 44-14 advantage on points in the paint.
KU made 15 of its first 20 shots to build a 21-point first-half lead and took a 44-26 lead into the locker room.
OSU played all but the first five minutes without Bryce Thompson who injured his shoulder on a drive to the basket.
Five OSU freshmen accounted for 23 of the 54 Cowboy points.
OSU finished with a 12-7 edge on free throw points and controlled the defensive glass, grabbing 21 of the 26 KU misses and holding the hosts to just two second-chance points.
The Cowboys return home Saturday to face Kansas State at Gallagher-Iba Arena (1 p.m. CT, ESPN+).
