Hinson-Tolchard, Robertson Collect Big 12 Postseason Awards
June 01, 2023 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's golfer Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and head coach Greg Robertson were both honored in the Big 12 postseason awards, the conference announced Thursday.
Hinson-Tolchard was named the conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, while Robertson earned his second Big 12 Coach of the Year award after doing so in 2021.
Following her tremendous sophomore campaign, Hinson-Tolchard was even better as a junior, winning the individual title at the Big 12 Championship and finishing top-10 seven times in just 11 tournaments played. At the NCAA Championship, she posted the program's best finish at nationals in 13 years with a fourth-place outing. Her 8-under weekend total was lowest in the conference, and she was one of just three Big 12 players to finish under par.
With a stroke average of 71.12, Hinson-Tolchard ranked third in program history for a single season. She carded 22 par-or-better rounds to tie the most ever by a Cowgirl in a season and ended 2023 having played 60 rounds in a row in which her score counted towards the overall team score.
Garnering the award in both 2022 and 2023, Hinson-Tolchard is the conference's first back-to-back Player of the Year since former Cowgirl Kelsey Vines in 2012 and 2013 and just the fifth two-time winner in conference history. Caroline Hedwall (2009, 2010) and Maria Boden (1999, 2000, 2001) round out the list of Cowgirls to win multiple conference Player of the Year awards.
An Oklahoma State golfer now owns each of the last three Big 12 Player of the Year awards, with Maja Stark earning the honor in 2021. OSU is the only program in Big 12 history to win the award in three straight seasons and has done so four separate times, the most recent stretch spanning from 2012 to 2014. In all, Thursday marks the 13th time a Cowgirl golfer has collected the honor.
Meanwhile, coach Robertson led the Cowgirls to two tournament victories this season, including the program's 11th Big 12 title, before finishing in a tie for 11th at the NCAA Championship. Oklahoma State concluded the 2022-23 season with five top-3 outings and compiled a strong 27-7-2 record against conference opponents.
Robertson joins the legendary Ann Pitts as the only coaches in program history to earn Big 12 Coach of the Year twice and has now been awarded conference Coach of the Year six times in his career.
In his four years at Oklahoma State, Robertson has led the Cowgirls to 11 tournament victories and coached seven different players to 16 individual titles. He owns a pair of Big 12 Championships and has guided the program to three straight appearances at nationals, its longest streak since 2008-2010. Last week, Hinson-Tolchard was named a First Team All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association, the fifth All-American selection under coach Robertson.
Hinson-Tolchard was also named to the All-Big 12 Team for the second straight season. Oklahoma State has had at least one player included on an All-Big 12 Team in 24 of the Big 12's 26 seasons.
