Cowgirls Set For Weekend In Augusta
March 09, 2023 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 16 Oklahoma State women's golf returns to play on Saturday for the Valspar Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Ga. Sixteen teams will square off for 54 holes of play at the par-72, 6,244-yard layout.
The Cowgirls travel to Augusta looking to capture their second tournament victory of the season, with the first coming at the Jim West Challenge in the fall finale. Throughout the season, OSU has put together three top-3 outings in six total tournaments.
Oklahoma State enters this weekend with some momentum after shooting its lowest 54-hole score of the season (vs. par), 20-under, at the ICON Invitational in February. Four different Cowgirls shot under par at the tournament, a feat that has not been accomplished since the previous rendition of the ICON Invitational in February of 2022.
The playing field this weekend includes Augusta, Alabama, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Furman, Georgia Southern, Minnesota, Ole Miss, South Florida, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
After facing fierce competition in both of their first two spring tournaments, the Cowgirls will take on another difficult test this weekend with five of their upcoming opponents currently ranking inside the top-25 according to GolfStat.
For the first time this season, Hailey Jones leads the Cowgirl lineup following a solid 1-under showing at the ICON Invitational. The senior signed off on a third round 69, a key piece of her season-best 54-hole score of 215.
Jones has been a staple of the Cowgirl lineup since arriving in Stillwater, having played 84 rounds in her career, the second-most on the active roster.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard looks to build on her stellar performance at the ICON Invitational, where she carded a 10-under 206 and finished tied for sixth. Her 206 was the second-lowest 54-hole score of her career, two strokes short of her 204 set at the Illini Invitational in October.
Last week, she dominated par-5's, shooting 7-under on such holes, while also leading the field in pars with 41. Hinson-Tolchard's outing was highlighted by a first round 67, in which she went bogey-free and sank five birdies.
Additionally, the star junior boasts a trio of top-10 finishes on the season and has played 45 consecutive rounds in which her score counted towards the team's overall score.
Clemence Martin makes her fifth start of the season and currently holds the second-best stroke average on the team at 72.08. The sophomore has gone par-or-better in half of her dozen rounds played this season, along with four rounds in the 60's, including a 69 in the first round at the ICON Invitational.
Han-Hsuan Yu once again etches her name in the starting lineup, having started in all seven tournaments this season. She has been a consistent piece for the Cowgirls, owning a 72.33 stroke average and shooting par-or-better in 10 of her 18 rounds played this season.
At the ICON Invitational, Yu fired a 3-under 213, just one stroke shy of equaling her season-low 54-hole score, en route to a top-20 finish.
Thitaporn Saithip returns to the Cowgirl lineup for her first start of the spring schedule. In the fall, Saithip played in four tournaments, including OSU's victory at the Jim West Challenge.
With a 72.17 scoring average and six par-or-better rounds, the freshman showed incredible consistency during her first semester in Stillwater.
The tournament is scheduled to tee off Saturday morning at 6:45 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and close the weekend with a final 18-hole round on Sunday.
