March 22, 2023 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 21 Oklahoma State women's golf is set for a weekend at the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, S.C. at the Reserve at Lake Keowee beginning on Friday. Sixteen teams are schedule to square off for 54 holes of play at the par-72, 6,386-yard course.
The Cowgirls head east in search of their first tournament victory of the spring schedule and second of the season after bringing home the team title at the Jim West Challenge in October.
Last time out, Oklahoma State finished seventh at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, a mark it is aiming to improve upon this upcoming weekend. There, the Cowgirls recorded rounds of 296 and 289 before the third round was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The playing field in Sunset includes Clemson, Columbia, Florida Atlantic, Furman, Illinois, Kentucky, Kent State, LSU, Maryland, Ole Miss, Tennessee, UNC Wilmington, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech, as well as in-state rival Oklahoma, who the Cowgirls are a perfect 4-0 against this season.
OSU will face another deep field of competition this weekend, as eight of its upcoming opponents are ranked inside the top-50 according to GolfStat, including third-ranked LSU.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard leads the Cowgirl lineup once again after another stellar outing in Augusta, where she finished tied for sixth at 3-under. With the result, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year has now notched four top-10 finishes on the season and has yet to land outside the top-20 in a single tournament.
With the regular season winding down, Hinson-Tolchard is also nearing multiple program records. Her single-season scoring average of 70.70 would place second in program history if the season ended today, just 0.22 strokes behind Maja Stark's record set in 2020-21. Additionally, she is only three par-or-better rounds from tying the program's career record set by Kenzie Neisen with 49, who did so in 137 career rounds while Hinson-Tolchard has only played 78 rounds as a Cowgirl.
The star junior has also played 47 rounds in a row in which her score counted towards the team's overall score, a streak dating back to October of 2021.
Clemence Martin once again etches her name in the starting lineup following her tie for 38th performance at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The sophomore has gone par-or-better in half of her 14 rounds played this season along with four rounds in the 60's.
Thitaporn Saithip makes her fifth start of the season after making her first appearance of the spring in Augusta. Saithip has put together a consistent freshman campaign, currently boasting the second-best stroke average on the team at 72.29. She has shot par-or-better seven times this season and owns a trio of top-25 performances, including a tie for 22nd last time out.
Earlier this season, Saithip became the first freshman at Oklahoma State to finish top-10 in the team's season opener since 2019 when she finished 10th at the Carmel Cup in September.
Rina Tatematsu rejoins the Cowgirl lineup for her sixth start of the season. Tatematsu, a WGCA Honorable Mention All-American in 2021, has a stroke average of 72.72 on the season, fourth-best on the squad.
Hailey Jones rounds out the starting lineup and brings a wealth of experience to Cowgirl program. The senior has played 86 rounds her career, second-most on the active roster, and currently holds the best stroke average of her career at 73.94.
The tournament is scheduled to tee off Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. CT on both holes No. 1 and No. 10. The teams will play a single 18 hole round each day, with the champion being crowned Sunday afternoon.
Live scoring for the event will be available every three holes on GolfStat.com.
