STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 18 Oklahoma State women's golf returns to action on Monday for the ICON Invitational at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. The 54-hole tournament will feature 16 teams at the par-72, 6,392-yard course.
The Cowgirls head south looking to improve upon their sixth-place finish at the Nexus Collegiate to open the spring season earlier this month. Throughout the season, OSU has recorded three top-3 finishes in five events, including a victory at the Jim West Challenge to close the fall schedule.
Oklahoma State is no stranger to the ICON Invitational, having played at the event in each of the last two seasons and finishing third both times. The Golf Club of Houston has been kind to the Cowgirls, as the team shot 19-under and 10-under in each of the last two renditions.
Notably, Rina Tatematsu captured her first career tournament victory at the ICON Invitational as a freshman in 2021. There, she carded rounds of 70-66-66 en route to a 14-under 202, her best 54-hole score as a Cowgirl.
The playing field in Humble includes Charlotte, Houston, Illinois, Maryland, NC State, North Texas, SMU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas State, Tulsa, USC and UTSA, as well as Big 12 foes Iowa State and Texas Tech.
After battling tough competition in the spring opener, the Cowgirls will face another tough test this week with 11 of their 15 opponents currently ranking inside the top-50 according to GolfStat. Despite this, Oklahoma State has compiled a 15-3 record against their upcoming opponents so far this season.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard leads the Cowgirl lineup once again in the team's second tournament of the spring. At the Nexus Collegiate, she finished in a tie for 12th following rounds of 75-73-75 (+7) 223.
Hinson-Tolchard, now the 21st-ranked collegiate player by GolfStat, has been incredibly consistent for OSU all season long, finishing inside the top-20 in all five tournaments played and playing 39 consecutive rounds in which her score counted towards the team's overall score.
Clemence Martin will be making her fourth appearance of the season after treating an injury in the fall and holds the third-best scoring average on the team at 72.22. In her nine rounds played this season, the sophomore has gone par-or-better four times, including a trio of rounds in the 60's.
Rina Tatematsu looks to continue her strong play after finishing tied for seventh at the team's spring opener, where she fired rounds of 73-72-76 and sunk eight birdies.
The junior has hit her stride as of late, finishing top-15 in back-to-back tournaments and shooting 73-or-better in 10 of her last 12 rounds played, including a pair in the 60's.
Senior Hailey Jones returns to the lineup for her fifth start of the season. Thus far, Jones has recorded a stroke average of 74.42 and adds a wealth of experience with her 81 career rounds played, second-most on the team.
Han-Hsuan Yu rounds out the Cowgirl lineup after starting in all five tournaments so far this season. She has put together a solid 2022-23 campaign, boasting a 72.60 scoring average and eight rounds in the 60's, the second-highest total among the Cowgirls.
