Cowgirls In Fifth After Day One At ICON Invitational

HUMBLE, Texas – No. 18 Oklahoma State women's golf completed the first two rounds at the ICON Invitational in Humble, Texas on Monday.
The Cowgirls combined for their best 36-hole score of the season, shooting a 10-under 278 in the first round and 9-under 279 in the second en route to a fifth-place finish. At 19-under, OSU is just one stroke back of fourth-place NC State and six shots off the lead with one round left to be played.
Taking advantage of numerous scoring opportunities, the Cowgirls went 12-under on par-5 holes throughout the day.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard led the Cowgirl lineup all afternoon, firing back-to-back rounds in the 60's before finishing the day at 9-under. She rode a bogey-free first round and an eagle on hole No. 13 in the second to wind up tied for fifth.
The star junior heads into Tuesday looking for her first tournament victory of the season and the tenth top-10 outing of her career.
Han-Hsuan Yu was not far behind at 5-under in a tie for 15th-place after rounds of 68 and 71. She sank 10 birdies on the afternoon, the most on the team.
Clemence Martin also landed inside the top-20 at 4-under, highlighted by a strong second round 69 in which she recorded five birdies. Following play on Monday, 10 of Martin's 11 rounds played on the season have qualified for the team's overall score.
Rina Tatematsu and Hailey Jones rounded out the Cowgirl lineup at even-par and 2-over, respectively.
The Cowgirls will return to the Golf Club of Houston on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. CT for the third round.
