Cowboy Tennis Drops Washington in Sunday Match

STILLWATER, Okla.Ā āĀ Oklahoma State men's tennis teamĀ defeated Washington 4-3 on Sunday at the Greenwood Tennis Center

With the victory, the Cowboys improved to 2-1 all-time in the series against the Huskies. Sunday marked Oklahoma State's first home victory over their Pac-12 opponent, last defeating them, on the road, 4-1, during their 2017-18 campaign.

Pitted in an early 5-2 deficit on court one, Tyler Zink and Isaac Becroft rallied back to swing the set to 5-3. In the ninth game, Zink and Becroft evened the score at 40 all. However, a set-clinching point from Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn delivered Washington the first doubles point.

Chase Ferguson and Alex Garcia were quick to respond, finishing off a 6-2 victory over Brett Pearson and Nedim Suko on court two.

In a hard-fought battle, Leighton Allen and Francisco Pini fell to Han-Chih Lin and Jim Hendrikx, 7-5, giving the doubles point to the Huskies.

Becroft kicked things off for the Cowboys in singles play, defeating Suko, 6-3, 6-1, to knot the match at 1-1.Ā

Shortly thereafter, Allen took down Brett Pearson on court six, 6-2, 6-3, to move Oklahoma State into the lead, 2-1.

Bouchelaghem tied things back up for Washington, dropping Garcia, 7-5, 6-4 on court three. However, Pini responded for Oklahoma State, rattling off a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Hendrikx to put the Cowboys a point away from clinching the match.

With two matches in the third set, Zink claimed the deciding point for the Cowboys, dropping Lin, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
The Cowboys return to action on Friday, February 17, where they face Middle Tennessee, at 6 p.m. (CST).
