Four Cowboys, Three Doubles Pairings Advance On First Day Of ITA Regionals

STILLWATER – Four members of the Oklahoma State men's tennis team and three doubles pairings advanced to the round of 32 during the first day of ITA Regional action on Wednesday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
Following his first-round bye, Tyler Zink routed Arkansas' Foster Rogers, 6-4, 6-0, which advanced him to the third round.
Alessio Basile marked the second Cowboy to advance to the third round. He beat Ethan Terry (North Dakota) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Alex Garcia came out strong after a first-round bye when he trumped Connor Smillie (Arkansas), 6-0, 6-3. Isaac Becroft joined Zink, Basile and Garcia, knocking off Ryoma Matsushita of New Mexico, 6-0, 7-6(3).
In doubles action, Basile/Schiessl defeated Trevey/Whiston from Nebraska, Omaha, 8-4, in the round of 64. They join Zink/Becroft and Allen/Roothman as the third OSU pairing in the second round.
Leighton Allen got a win over Nathan Matsuguma (Lindenwood), 6-1, 6-2. He was one of three Cowboys to play in the round of 128 and advanced to the second round of action. In his second match of the day, Allen lost to Quintan Van Wijk (Nebraska), 6-2, 6-2.
Carl Roothman glided past Ethan Neil (Creighton) in the first round, 6-2, 6-1. After a first-round victory, Pierce Rollins of Tulsa dropped Roothman 6-2, 6-2.
Nebraska's Rudolf Christiansen defeated Erik Schiessl in the second round, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Ty Wunderlich fell in the round of 128, 3-6, 7-6(2), 0-6 to Saint Louis' Declan Townsend.
Play will begin with singles in the round of 32 starting at 9 a.m. CT on Thursday.
