Cowgirls Remain In Third After Second Round At Pebble Beach
September 03, 2022 | Cowgirl Golf
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. ---- Oklahoma State women's golf finished the second round of action at the Carmel Cup in third place heading into Sunday's finale after carding a combined 370 on Saturday.
Sitting at 16-over, the Cowgirls will take on the distinguished, par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links for the final round tomorrow morning. Currently, Oklahoma State trails Stanford and Texas A&M, but sits in third with a one-stroke advantage over Arkansas.
The Carmel Cup is unique in its scoring format compared to most collegiate tournaments, having six players tee off for each team and counting the top five individual scores, rather than the common four counting scores format most events utilize.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, who is in fifth place after carding a 72 on Saturday, closed her round with birdies on two of her final three holes to earn an even par round. A junior, she will head into Sunday looking to capture the eighth top-10 finish of her career.
Han-Hsuan Yu followed up her opening day 3-under 69 with a 2-over 74 in the second round. She finished the day tied for sixth and the second most birdies in the field. She has excelled on the par-4's through her first 36 holes of action, playing them at 3-under par.
Hinson-Tolchard and Yu are just two of seven players under par at the Carmel Cup through 36 holes of work.
Three birdies through the first six holes on Saturday helped freshman Thitaporn Saithip to a 2-over 74 to finish her first two rounds as a Cowgirl tied for 15th.
Hailey Jones, who is tied for 19th, rounded out the top-20 for the Cowgirls as she posted a 3-over 75 on Saturday.
Cecilie Leth-Nissen, another freshman playing in her first collegiate tournament, and Rina Tatematsu rounded out the Cowgirls lineup.
Leth-Nissen finished the day in a tie for 40th while Tatematsu will head to Sunday in 46th. Leth-Nissen posted a bounce-back round of 3-over 75, while Tatematsu also turned her weekend around with a 4-over 76.
In Sunday's final round, the Cowgirls will look for a top-3 finish for the 17th consecutive regular season tournament, dating back to the third-place finish at the Cowgirl Classic at Karsten Creek in October of 2020.
The Cowgirls begin their final round at Pebble Beach tomorrow morning at 9:54 a.m. CT.
