September 22, 2022 | Cowgirl Soccer
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Oklahoma State continued its winning ways Thursday night as the Cowgirls opened Big 12 Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Kansas at Rock Chalk Park.
The win was the fifth in a row for OSU, which improved to 8-1-1, while KU fell to 7-4-0.
Jordan Nytes racked up a career-high 12 saves, doubling her previous best, to post her fourth clean sheet of the season as OSU brought its league-leading shutout total to seven; fellow freshman Chloe Wright tallied her first-career goal.
The Cowgirls were outshot 9-3 in the opening half but took the lead into the break.
In the 35th minute, Blythe Beldner delivered a cross into the box that Wright was able to get a foot on and send past KU keeper Melania Pasar for her first goal and a 1-0 OSU advantage.
The second half saw the Cowgirls' defense continue to hold strong, with Nytes making 10 saves on 14 KU shots over the final 45 minutes.
In the 77th minute, OSU doubled its lead when Megan Haines sent a cross toward the box that a Kansas defender failed to clear as her attempt found the back of the net for an own goal and a 2-0 advantage for the Cowgirls.
The Jayhawks outshot OSU by a 23-7 margin in the match, but the Cowgirls owned a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
OSU returns to action Sunday at Kansas State with that match scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
