Pair Of Cowgirls Advance To Match Play In U.S. Women's Amateur

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wa. (Chambers Bay) ---- Oklahoma State women's golfers Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Han-Hsuan Yu advanced to match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay this week. Hinson-Tolchard closed the opening two rounds in a tie for seventh while Yu finished in a tie for 16th at the par-73, 6,541-yard layout.
Hinson-Tolchard carded rounds of 69 (4-under) and 71 (2-under) to advance while Yu posted rounds of 71 (2-under) and 72 (1-under).
The low 64 scorers after 36 holes of stroke play advanced to match play.
"Dad and I have done a really good job at positioning ourselves off the tee and into the greens, which is giving us a lot of opportunities for birdies," Hinson-Tolchard said. "I have a lot of confidence in my ball striking this week and we are just going out and having a good time and taking it as it comes."
Match play is scheduled to run through Sunday and starts Wednesday with the Round of 64. Rounds of 32 and 16 will take play Thursday, while the Quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday.
Semifinal action is scheduled for Saturday while the Championship match will take place with 36 holes on Sunday.

"The course is incredible," Hinson-Tolchard stated. "You can't get over the view. It's just a cool place to play golf and a great challenge so I'm really enjoying it. It's even more special to have dad here with me!"
The U.S. Women's Amateur is open to any female amateur whose handicap does not exceed 5.4. The champion will earn a gold medal and the Robert Cox Trophy for one year, and the following exemptions:
The first Women's Amateur Championship was arranged on short notice one month after the 1895 Amateur and Open Championships.
Although a stroke-play format was selected for the first championship, the Women's Amateur became a match-play competition in 1896 and has remained so ever since.
Many U.S. Women's Amateur champions have gone on to success in professional golf, including five-time champion JoAnne Gunderson Carner, whose record of eight USGA titles is eclipsed only by Bob Jones and Tiger Woods (nine). Other notable champions include Beth Daniel, Juli Inkster, Danielle Kang, Lydia Ko, Kelli Kuehne, Catherine Lacoste, Anne Sander, Pearl Sinn, Louise Suggs, Carol Semple Thompson and Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
