STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team returned to the win column after a gritty 4-2 victory over No. 32 Tulsa this afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.Â
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 11-7 on the year. In victory, Oklahoma State also notched their 14th consecutive doubles point in the showing.Â
"That was just a good college tennis match," OSU head coach Dustin Taylor said. "Two good teams that competed hard. From our end, it was a good match from top to bottom. I am really proud of the guys and how they responded from a tough match against Oklahoma 48 hours ago. "
The Cowboys were quick to collect the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Max Verboven and Alex Garcia got momentum started early after dominating Daniel Siddall and Tom Thelwall-Jones, 6-4. Leighton Allen and Joseph Chen were quick to rally and impressively took down Tulsa's duo of Callum Gale and Adham Gaber, 6-4. When the point was decided, No. 37 Tyler Zink and Seb Nothhaft were in a tight contest against Connor Di Marco and Kody Pearson, 6-6.Â
Tulsa was quick to gain their footing in singles action, taking the first two courts in the matchup. Seb Nothhaft took the court against Connor Di Marco, where a back-and-forth battle went to Tulsa in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-4. The momentum continued to court six when Callum Gale downed Joseph Chen in a hard-fought battle, 6-2, 6-3, to give the Golden Hurricane the overall advantage, 2-1.Â
Max Verboven was quick to answer back for Oklahoma State on court three. The junior was impressive against No. 83 Ezequiel Santalla in a straight-set performance, 6-4, 6-4, to count a crucial point for OSU and even the match at two apiece.Â
