April 08, 2022 | Cowboy Tennis
WACO, Texas - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team came out on the short end of a 7-0 setback at the hands of Baylor on Friday evening at the Hurd Tennis Center.Â
With the loss, the Cowboys dipped to 11-8 on the year and 0-2 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma State's streak of 14 consecutive doubles points also came to a halt in the outing.Â
The Bears separated themselves early in doubles play. Baylor gained traction after securing a tight-knit battle on court two against OSU's Alex Garcia and Max Verboven, who were downed by No. 21 Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi and Matias Soto, 6-3.Â
Leighton Allen and Joseph Chen went back and forth with Adrian Boitan and Tadeas Paroulek before eventually falling, 6-3, to give Baylor the doubles point.Â
No. 26 Tyler Zink and Seb Nothhaft were hot out of the gate against No. 4 Finn Bass and Sven Lah on court one and stood at 4-4 when the point was decided.Â
In singles action, Baylor collected the next two points. Court five was first to finish, where Leighton Allen fell to Tadeas Paroulek in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The momentum rolled to court six, where Joseph Chen was downed by Juan Pablo Grassi Massuchi, 6-1, 6-1.Â
Alex Garcia took the court against No. 38 Matias Soto, where Garcia put together a strong match before falling short in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, to give Baylor the match, 4-0.Â
Although the match was decided, the remaining courts played out.Â
Max Verboven put a strong effort together on court three in his matchup against No. 73 Sven Lah. The Bear was quick to claim the opening set, 6-1. Although a quick rally to start the second and consistent battle through the second wasn't enough as the Cowboy ultimately fell, 7-6(7).
Courts one and four remained highly contested throughout the entirety of the matchup.Â
Seb Nothhaft and Fin Bass remained neck-and-neck throughout the opening set only for a quick run to go to Bass, 7-5. A quick answer by OSU's Nothhaft evened the field, 7-5, only to fall in the third, 10-5.Â
Tyler Zink highlighted the night for the Oklahoma State continuously working No. 4 Adrian Boitan on court one. The Cowboy put on a show to claim the opening set, 7-6(2), and had play going back and forth despite dropping in the second set, 6-4. An evenly matched third set went the way of Boitan, 10-8. Â
The Cowboys will continue their Texas road swing as they square off with Texas Tech in Lubbock on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CST).Â
