March 28, 2022 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's golf's Rina Tatematsu is set to compete in the Augusta National Women's Amateur 2022 Championship, which will start March 30 and run through April 2.
A sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, she is poised to make her first appearance in the tournament.
OSU has had at least one competitor in each edition of the tournament, which was announced prior to the 2018 Masters and started in 2019. The competition was not held in 2020 due to Covid-19.
THE WEEK
The first 36 holes will be contested at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., March 30-31. The entire field will then play Augusta National for an official practice round on April 1.
The final round will take place at Augusta National on April 2 and will feature the top-30 competitors who made the cut from the original field of 72.
THE FORMAT
The 54-hole tournament will start with a cut for the leading 30 players after the first 36 holes of action. If an even cut is not made at 30 players after that point, a playoff will ensue to determine the leading 30 players. In the event of a tie after 54 holes, the winner will be decided with a sudden-death playoff.
HEAD COACH GREG ROBERTSON QUOTE
"We were so excited to get the news about Rina's invitation. She has worked very hard and has played some great golf over the last year and a half at OSU, so this is very deserving. I feel this is one of the biggest tournaments in the world on the women's side, professional or amateur, and it's something she's going to cherish for the rest of her life."
RINA TATEMATSU QUOTE
"It is such an honor to get to play at this prestigious event. It has always been one of my biggest dreams to play at Augusta. I'm ready to enjoy every moment there. I can't wait to go out there and make some memories that will last a lifetime."
