Han-Hsuan Yu Goes Low As Cowgirls Head To Weekend In Third In Arizona
March 18, 2022 | Cowgirl Golf
TUSCON, Ariz. – No. 5 Oklahoma State women's golf finished the first round of the Mountainview Collegiate tied for third at 7-under after shooting a 281 on Friday in Tucson, Ariz.
No. 23 Texas Tech closed the day in first place at 17-under with San Jose State in second at 11-under. Oklahoma State and Texas A&M head to the weekend tied for third.
Han-Hsuan Yu carded a 67 through her first 18 holes to head to the clubhouse tied for second at 5-under. It marked her fourth-straight round shooting in the 60s dating back to the Florida Gators Invitational. Going back to the Dale MacNamara Invitational in the fall, she's recorded a season-best eight-straight rounds at par or better.
She was one of just 10 competitors in the 90-person field to card an eagle on Friday as she finished the par-4 sixth in two shots.
"We got off to a great start today and made quite a few birdies," head coach Greg Robertson said. "Just need to keep the foot on the pedal through the finish and play the par-5s better to get us in a good position going into the final round. It was great to see all five players at par or better. There's a lot of golf left and lots to look forward to these next two days."
Hailey Jones and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard finished the day tied for 21st after shooting a pair of 71s to finish the first round at 1-under. Lianna Bailey and Clemence Martin rounded out the Cowgirl lineup with a couple 72s to head to the weekend in 28th-place at even par.
The second round is set for a 10:00 a.m. CT start on Saturday at the par-72, 6,352-yard layout. Live scoring will be available on birdiefire.com and the team's social media as it becomes available.
The 16-team tournament features Big 12 opponents Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas Tech in addition to Missouri, Arkansas, Florida, Houston, North Texas, San Jose State, Southern Mississippi, Texas A&M, Tulsa and UNLV. 90 student-athletes are competing for the individual championship.
The Cowgirls won the individual and team titles at this event in 2021. OSU's team 54-hole score of 844 was the second best in tournament history for an event that dates back to 1999.
