Home Win Streak Continues as Cowgirl Equestrian Beats No. 4 Baylor

STILLWATER, Okla. -Â Oklahoma State's top-ranked equestrian team defeated No. 4 Baylor, 11-8, on Sunday afternoon at the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center.Â
With the win, the Cowgirls moved to 5-1 on the season and a perfect 4-0 record in conference play. Â
"Today's win was a great way to kick off the spring season," OSU Western assistant coach Laura Brainard said. "Baylor is a very competitive team that we have a lot of respect for. They always keep us on our toes and we certainly don't take anything for granted. We have to keep working to clean up areas in each event and become even stronger. Our team is always up for any challenge and definitely won't be backing down any time soon."Â Â
The meet began with Fences, where the Cowgirls took the event by a tally of 3-2. Hope King and Sydney North recorded scores of 78 and 80, respectively, each securing points for the Cowgirls. Baylor's Madison Mitchell defeated Emma Pacyna, 80-55. Sydnie Ziegler countered with an 85-80 victory to earn MOP honors. To conclude the discipline, Savannah Hemby won her ride, 83-79, against Abigail Brayman. Â
Coinciding with Fences was Reining. Quincee Clark started the event with a MOP-worthy ride to beat her opponent, 67.5-67. Molly Mitchell continued the momentum and defeated Baylor's Shelby Clausen, 69-68. Baylor secured three points via Jenna Meimerstorf, Madaline Callaway, and Andie Pratt as the trio of Bears earned scores of 70, 68.5, and 69. The meet was tied, 5-5, at intermission. Â
Next up was Horsemanship, in which the Cowgirls took control of the meet, winning by a 4-1 margin. Maddie Fussell picked up a victory against Baylor's Gabrielle Marty, 73-71. The lone Baylor point came from Nadalee Vasquez who narrowly beat Lizzie Meerman, 70.5-69. Caroline Nielson and Natalie Vargo each bested their opponents, 73-72.5 and 72.5-68.5, respectively. To conclude the discipline, Jojo Roberson earned her fourth MOP of the season with a 75-71.5 victory. Â Â
Flat was the final event in the competition in which the Cowgirls secured the win against the Bears. The only two Baylor points came from Fletcher with a 76-67 win and Fuller, who earned MOP honors with a score of 79. Katie Pelzel and Dominika Silvestri each scored a 70 and no point was awarded. Sydnie Ziegler continued to dominate, claiming a Cowgirl point by beating Madison Mitchell, 75-65. Abigail Brayman finished off the meet with a 74.5-74 victory over Savannah Hemby. Â
"I'm proud of this team for bringing their all today and getting this season started strong," OSU Jumping Seat assistant coach Olivia Dorey said. "We had a lot of challenges thrown at us this week and they just kept pushing through and staying focused. I am excited to keep the momentum up heading into next week."Â Â
