Cowboy Tennis Falls to Pepperdine

Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team suffered its first home loss of the season to No. 18 Pepperdine, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon in the Greenwood Tennis Center.

OSU dipped to 2-4 on the year with the loss.

Pepperdine separated themselves early in doubles play. Court one was the first to drop, Tyler Zink and Alex Garcia fell to Eero Vasa and Daniel De Jonge, 6-4. Andrew Rogers and Pietro Fellin clinched the doubles point for the Waves on court two against Joseph Chen and Seb Nothhaft, 6-3. Court three was left unfinished where Leighton Allen and Fran Pini were trailing by one to Corrado Summaria and Tim Zeitvogel, 5-4.

Junior Seb Nothhaft brought the momentum in singles play where he notched a ranked singles victory over No. 15 Andrew Rogers.

Nothhaft ran with the first set and never looked back. The Cowboy cruised to an opening set victory, 6-4, and closed out the match with an impressive 6-1 second set. The win put OSU on the board for the first time on the day.

Pepperdine answered back on court six, Corrado Summaria defeated Joseph Chen in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-3. Court one followed closely thereafter where Tyler Zink fought down to the wire, but No. 9 Daniel De Jong closed out the Cowboy, 6-4, 6-4.

Freshman Fran Pini fought back on court five and took care of business, winning a thriller, 7-6(8), 6-1, against No. 99 Eric Hadigian to extend the Waves' lead to 3-2.

It all came down to courts two and four.

On court two, Alex Garcia squared off against No. 24 Pietro Fellin. Garcia grabbed the first set by a 7-5 count. Fellin prevailed to take the second set, 6-3. Fellin took a 3-0 lead in the third, but Garcia overcame the deficit to eventually only trail by one. The match fell the way of Fellin in the third set, 6-4.

Court four was left unfinished, where Leighton Allen was in a neck-and-neck battle against Eero Vasa, 6-4, 6-7(2), 4-5.

The Cowboys continue their homestand when they play host to Cornell on Friday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
