Pre-Seeds Announced for Big 12 Wrestling Championships

STILLWATER – Nine Cowboys received their seeds for the Big 12 Wrestling Championships taking place March 5-6 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it was announced today.
Set to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, the first three sessions of the event will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The championship round will air on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. on Sunday night.
Daton Fix (133), Kaden Gfeller (149) and Dustin Plott (174) each received the top seed in their bracket, which marked the most in the conference.
Wyatt Sheets is seeded third at 157 pounds, behind two top-five ranked wrestlers, reigning national champion David Carr (ISU) and Jared Franek (NDSU).
Three Cowboys enter the conference tournament as four seeds in their respective brackets, including 2020 Big 12 champion, Travis Wittlake at 165 pounds. Dakota Geer (184) and Trevor Mastrogiovanni (125) will also take on their field as the fourth seeds at their weight.
Carter Young and Luke Surber will be making their postseason debuts for the Pokes. Young compiled a 10-5 record as a true freshman and will be the No. 5 seed at 141 pounds, while Surber will wrestle as the No. 7 seed in the heavyweight bracket.
Gavin Stika will compete at 197 pounds after filling in the second half of the season for the 2021 Big 12 and national champion, AJ Ferrari, who is out for the season due to injury.
