2022-23: Bumped up to 165 pounds for his COVID season where he went 15-17 at one of the deepest weight classes in the country … Pinned No. 10 Austin Yant with 36 seconds left in the third period to lead the Pokes to a close win at Northern Iowa … Also pinned No. 20 Andrew Sparks of Minnesota at the Southern Scuffle to avenge a loss from earlier in the season … Faced a gauntlet of ranked opponents with nine of 10 matches coming against ranked opponents, including six in the top 10 … Went 2-2 at his fifth appearance in the Big 12 Championships … Earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships where he was given the No. 31 seed … Defeated No. 18 Maxx Mayfield, 7-2, in between losses to eventual national champion Keegan O’Toole and No. 17 Austin Yant … Moved into 10th place for total bouts with 147 career matches at the NCAA Championships … Completed his career with an 87-60 record.
2021-22: Went 11-10 in his senior season as he battled with injuries late in the year … Became a three-time NCAA qualifier after receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships as the No. 31 seed … Went 1-2 at the tournament with a win over No. 18 Andrew Cerniglia and battled in losses to No. 1 David Carr and No. 2 Ryan Deakin … Had an early season win streak of seven matches that began with ranked wins over No. 32 Parker Kropman (DREX) and No. 15 Justin Thomas (OU) … Rode the entire third period to secure a 2-1 decision over No. 22 Jarrett Jacques in the Missouri dual … Recorded four major decisions and a technical fall on the season.
2020-21: Went 11-9 on the season while dealing with a season-long injury that held him out of the first month of the season … Returned to the OSU starting lineup at the end of January with a 15-4 major decision against Cayd Lara (UNI) … Entered the NCAA Championships as the No. 33 seed at 157 pounds after originally missing the tournament, but getting in due to another wrestler withdrawing … Posted a 5-3 record at the tournament as he outperformed his seed by 25 places, which was the most of any wrestler in the field … Pushed No. 1 seed Ryan Deakin of Northwestern to the end in a 4-2 defeat … After three wins in the wrestlebacks against No. 16 Justin McCoy (UVA), No. 18 Cade DeVos (SDSU) and No. 26 Johnny Lovett (CMU), a medical forfeit victory over No. 12 Brady Berge of Penn State cemented his status as a 2021 All-American, becoming the lowest seed to ever do so … Compiled five bonus-point wins with four of them coming via major decision and one technical fall.
2019-20: Compiled a 20-7 record with an 11-5 dual record… Picked up five ranked wins on the season… Earned Big 12 wrestler of the week honors twice in the month of February… Upset No. 11 Jarrett Jacques of Missouri in a back-and-forth overtime match… Knocked off No. 18 Taleb Rahmani for the second consecutive season on his way to a third-place finish at the Southern Scuffle… Ripped off an eight-match win streak that began on Jan. 31 at the South Dakota State dual and stretched into the Big 12 tournament… Picked up four of his five ranked wins during that streak, including an upset of Iowa’s Kaleb Young who was ranked fifth at the time… Was the three seed at the Big 12 tournament and had two bonus-point wins before falling to the No. 1 seed in the finals… Entered his first NCAA Championship as the No. 11 seed in the 157 pound class.
2018-19: Made his first dual starts for the Cowboys in January at West Virginia and Pittsburgh where he defeated Zach Moore, 3-1, before knocking off No. 10 Taleb Rahmani (Pitt), 9-3… Went 19-12 on the year competing at 157 pounds… Took second place at the OCU Open… Finished fourth at the Bob Smith Open and competed at the Reno Tournament of Champions and Southern Scuffle… Defeated No. 16 Josh Humphries of Lehigh in a sudden-victory thriller, 7-5, on Feb. 3 at home… Went 4-2 at the Big 12 Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., claiming fourth place in his first year at the event.
2017-18 (MHW): Went 11-5 overall at 157 pounds before his season was cut short due to injury … Recorded three falls, three technical falls and two major decision … Finished fourth at the Journeymen Classic …Went 2-1 to finish third at the OCU Open … Also competed at the Lindenwood Open and Bob Smith Open.
2016-17 (Redshirt Year): Went 10-5 overall during his first year with the Cowboys, with two falls and a pair of technical falls … Took first at the OCU Open, following a pin and tech fall with a 1-0 win over Oklahoma’s Justin Thomas in the finals … Finished second at the OCU Open, dropping the final to teammate Davey Dolan … Also made appearances at the Bob Smith Open and Reno Tournament of Champions.
High School: Posted an impressive 143-2 mark at Stilwell High School competing for head coach Chris Barbee … A four-time Oklahoma state champion … Earned junior national All-American status at Fargo in 2015 and 2016.
Personal: Son of Mike and Kristy Sheets … His father, Mike Sheets, wrestled at Oklahoma State and was a two-time NCAA Champion … Graduated in December 2021 with a bachelor's degree in animal science: business and is close to obtaining a second degree in animal science: production.
