Cowgirl Tennis Advances At Blue Gray Tennis Classic To Earn Chris Young Career Win No. 400

MONTGOMERY, ALA.-Oklahoma State's 10th-ranked women's tennis team picked up an opening-round victory at the Blue Gray Championships, shutting out Yale, 4-0, on Friday afternoon.Â
The win gave Chris Young his 400th career victory as a head coach and pushed Oklahoma State to 7-1 on the season. The Cowgirls completed their second straight and fifth sweep of the season.Â
The match format began with singles play to make up for time lost due to a weather delay. The Cowgirls dominated from start to finish in their first outdoor match of the spring. OSU took the first set on all six courts. Ayumi Miyamoto struck first for OSU in her rout of Yale's Mirabelle Bretkelly, 6-2, 6-1. Next, Dariya Detkovskaya moved to 2-0 on the season by defeating Vivian Cheng, 6-1, 6-4.Â
No. 82 Oona Orpana took down Yale's Jessie Gong, 6-2, 6-2, to extend the OSU lead. No. 29 Mhai Sawangkaew finished off the Bulldogs, taking down Chelsea Kung, 6-2, 7-5, picking up her third consecutive victory.Â
When her match was stopped, Sofia Rojas led Rhea Shrivistava, 7-6, 3-1. Martina Zerulo was tied at five in the second set when her match was called.

After a lengthy break, OSU was back on the court to take on Furman in doubles action.Â
OSU ended a long day by taking the doubles point after victories on courts one and two. Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto moved to 5-0 on the season after dominating Furman's Ellie Schulson Madison Dillon, 6-1. Martina Zerulo and Mhai Sawangkaew clinched the doubles point for OSU in thrilling fashion. Down two games, the Cowgirl pair fought back and took down the 23rd-ranked duo in the nation, Julia Adams and Ellie Schoppe, 6-4.Â
The Cowgirls will get back to work tomorrow morning, as they resume action against Furman in singles play at 9:30 a.m.. With a win, the Cowgirls would advance to tomorrow afternoon's championship.Â
