December 15, 2022 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER, Okla ---- Oklahoma State women's golfers Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Clemence Martin were ranked 14th and 23rd, respectively, in the initial Fall Palmer Cup International Rankings released Thursday.
Â
In the summer of 2023, the Arnold Palmer Cup is set to host some of the game's best women's and men's collegiate players from the United States and their International counterparts. This is the 27th rendition of the Arnold Palmer Cup, and will be held at Laurel Valley Golf Club, located outside Ligonier, Pa., spanning from June 8-10.
Â
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), beginning in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament, matching the United States against a team of International players.
Â
In a nod to its prestige, the Palmer Cup has been played at some of the world's greatest courses, including The Old Course at St. Andrews, The Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Baltusrol, The Honors Course, and Cherry Hills. Since 2018, the Palmer Cup is the only major tournament which features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
Â
Since the event's inception, over 125 Arnold Palmer Cup alumni have gone on to earn cards on the PGA, DP World, or LPGA tours, with more than 75 players claiming over 310 victories, including 2022 major champion Jennifer Kupcho. Additionally, 34 tournament alumni have represented either Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, or Solheim Cup.
Â
Both the USA and International teams shall consist of 12 golfers, with the first six being selected from the final Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking. The remaining players will be selected by using five committee picks and one coach's pick.
Â
Hinson-Tolchard, born in Perth, Australia, and Martin, from Paris, France, are both vying for spots on the International squad.
Â
Both Cowgirls are coming off strong fall seasons, each setting multiple personal records while helping guide the team to three of top-3 finishes and a championship at the Jim West Challenge.
Â
Currently ranked 85th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Hinson-Tolchard had a pair of top-10 performances in the Cowgirls' first four events of the 2022-23. In October, she fired a career-low 204 at the Illini Women's Invitational en route to a third-place finish.
Â
Martin opened her sophomore campaign with a career outing at the Schooner Fall Classic, where fired a 202 after three consecutive rounds in the 60's. That score, along with her T3 finish at the event, are both the best marks of her career thus far.
