Cowboy Tennis Falls to Columbia, 4-3

Austin, Texas - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team came out on the short end of a down-to-the-wire, 4-3 contest against Columbia at the ITA Kickoff on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Cowboys dipped to 2-3 on the year.

OSU was fast out of the gate in doubles play. Tyler Zink and Alex Garcia set the pace, cruising to 6-1 victory on court one. Leighton Allen and Fran Pini clinched the doubles point for the Pokes, dealing a 6-4 loss to Alex Kotzen and Austen Huang. Court two was left unfinished with Seb Nothhaft and Max Verboven trailing Henry Ruger and Jayden Templeman, 5-4.

The Cowboys fought hard throughout the lineup in singles action.

Court two was first to finish, Alex Garcia squared-off with No. 87 Hugo Hashimoto where he fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Court four was next to finish as Seb Nothhaft came up short against Austen Huang, 6-2, 6-1, to give Columbia a 2-1 lead.

Tyler Zink and No. 12 Alex Kotzen were an evenly matched duo on court one. Kotzen came out of top in the first set, 6-4. A back-and-forth battle throughout the second set landed in Columbia's favor, 6-4.

Leighton Allen was quick to answer back on court five for the Cowboys. The sophomore dealt a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set loss to Henry Ruger to swing momentum back in favor of OSU and pull the Cowboys within one at 3-2.

Fran Pini tied the match up for OSU with an impressive close out on court six against Jayden Templeman, 6-2, 7-5.

It all came down to court three where Max Verboven faced-off against Ishaan Ravichander. Verboven dropped the first set, 6-2. The Cowboy didn't back down, leading a majority of the second set, but Ravichander eventually finished the match, 7-6(2).
