Cowgirl Tennis Looks to Continue Success In Lubbock

LUBBOCK — Oklahoma State's Ayumi Miyamoto, Mhai Sawangkaew and Oona Orpana will represent the Cowgirl tennis team this week at the West Texas Pro Tennis Open, which will begin play on Tuesday.
Sawangkaew and Orpana will enter this tournament as top five seeds.
The Cowgirl newcomers made their debuts at the Ft. Worth Pro Tennis Classic last week. Orpana entered the contest as the top seed in qualifying. Mhai Sawangkaew dropped her first match to McCartney Kessler of Florida, 7-6 (2), 6-2, in qualifying.
In singles, Orpana defeated Anna Hertel, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, to advance. In the quarterfinals of the main draw after a hard-fought match, Orpana was defeated by the reigning NCAA singles champion Emma Navarro, 6-4, 6-2.
All three Cowgirls will be in action today. Orpana and Miyamoto will begin play following the first matches at 10 a.m. Orpana will face Melany Krywoj and Ayumi Miyamoto will face Tamara Itzhaki. Mhai Sawangkaew will play the winner of Miyamoto's match.

Martina Zerulo and Sofia Rojas represented the Cowgirls at the Tucker Tennis Academy UTR event this weekend.
Zerulo won the event after defeating fellow Cowgirl Sofia Rojas in the semifinals and Laia Conde Montfort of Tulsa in the finals, 6-4, 6-1. In her five wins, she didn't lose more than five games in a match.
