Emile Hudd Clinches Win Over Oklahoma, 4-2
March 12, 2021 | Cowboy Tennis
Norman, Okla. - Oklahoma State's 25th-ranked men's tennis team tallied a 4-2 win tonight against the No. 26 Oklahoma Sooners, sealed with a three-set upset win from No. 101 Emile Hudd over OU's 69th-ranked Mason Beiler on the No. 3 singles court.
It marked OSU's first Bedlam win since 2009 and improved it to 6-3 overall on the season with a 1-3 record on the road.
The Cowboys struck while the iron was hot and ran with the doubles point. Hudd and Dominik Kellovsky were the first to finish on court two with a win over OU's Jake Van Emburgh and Matt Rodriguez, 6-3. Matej Vocel and Henrik Korsgaard followed suit on court one, defeating Nathan Han and Alex Martinez 6-4. When the doubles point was decided, OSU's Mathieu Scaglia and Maxim Tybar were leading their contest against Max Stewart and Mason Beiler, 5-4, when play was halted.
Oklahoma was the first to score in singles action as Mark Mandlik defeated Kellovsky on court four, 6-3, 6-2, to put OU on the board and tie the team score at 1-1.  OSU answered as Vocel impressively won against Van Emburgh in straight sets on court one, 6-3, 6-3, to put the Pokes back in front 2-1.
Although OSU's Korsgaard dropped his first set to Martinez, 6-4, he cruised to a 6-3 score in his second set and won 6-0 in the decisive third set to put the Cowboys up 3-1. Court six was next to finish as Etienne Donnet fell to Welsh Hotard 6-4, 7-6 to make the team score 3-2.
The match came down to courts three and five. On their respective courts, Hudd and Scaglia both went into tiebreakers at least once on the night.Â
On court two, Emile Hudd cruised through his first set 6-2 only to fall in his second to Beiler, 7-6. After a back-and-forth battle during the third, Hudd clinched the victory for the Cowboys 6-4, and pushed the Cowboys to the 4-2 dual win.Â
On court five, Mathieu Scaglia and OU's Nathan Han were in a back-and-forth battle starting in the first set. Scaglia took the first set 7-6, only to fall 6-4 in the second and leave the match unfinished in the final set.
OSU returns to action at home Tuesday, March 16, hosting Texas A&M at 2 p.m.
