Conroe, Texas — Sophomore left-hander Kelly Maxwell threw a no-hitter and the Oklahoma State softball team improved to 6-0 with run-rule victories over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Tarleton State as part of the Scrap Yard Blizzard Challenge Sunday.
OSU opened the day with an 11-0 run-rule victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Maxwell (3-0) and her third career no-hitter were the story of the day. The only thing that kept her from second career perfect game was a hit batter to lead off the fifth inning. Maxwell finished with a career-best 10 strikeouts.
In the second game of the day, OSU picked up another run-rule victory, defeating Tarleton State, 12-4, as All-America right-hander Carrie Eberle (2-0) allowed just two hits in her four innings of work.
In game one, Taylor Tuck's four RBI led the way as five different Cowgirls drove in a run against the Islanders. All-America first baseman Alysen Febrey went 2-for-4 in the game and picked up and her eighth RBI of the season on a single through the right side.
Outfielder Hayley Busby came off the bench and went 2-for-2 while center fielder Chyenne Factor added two hits and two runs in the win.
In game two, OSU scored four runs in the first inning behind five straight hits from the middle of the lineup.
Michaela Richbourg continued her hot streak at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the game with three RBI and three runs scored. Busby also continued her run at the plate, grabbing two more hits in the second game to go along with her four RBI against the Texans.
Tarleton State made it interesting in the top of the fifth, plating four runs before true freshman Savannah Evans came in and got the Cowgirls out of a bases-loaded jam.
The Cowgirls will play a double-header for the third consecutive day Monday as they travel to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar. The games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. CT.
