Cowgirl Equestrian Remains Unbeaten With Road Win

FRESNO, Calif. – The newly top-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated No. 6 Fresno State, 10-9, Friday afternoon at the Student Horse Center to keep the Cowgirls' perfect season intact as they moved to 4-0.
The meet began with Fences, where the Cowgirls took the event by a score of 3-2. OSU's Hope King earned MOP honors with her score of 85, defeating FSU's Cecily Hayes. Sydnie Ziegler and Sydney North recorded scores of 85 and 76, respectively, each earning points for the Cowgirls. Lizzie Stoden and Ana Bertozzi of Fresno State kept the Bulldogs close, as they both earned a point with scores of 81 and 80.
Coinciding with Fences was Horsemanship, in which the Cowgirls took control of the meet, winning by a 4-1 margin. OSU's Natalie Vargo opened the event by winning a point with her score of 75. Hannah Buijs answered with a score of 72.5, earning a point for the Bulldogs. The Cowgirls then won three points in a row, thanks to performances from Caroline Nielson, Maddie Fussell and JoJo Roberson.
Nielson was awarded MOP honors in Horsemanship for her score of 75.5. Roberson kept her undefeated season alive with a 75.5, while Fussell earned a 76.
Following intermission, Flat and Reining occurred simultaneously. After a tightly contested event, the Cowgirls would eventually lose in Flat, 3-2. Ziegler continued her stellar day, scoring an 80 and earning a point for OSU, and Katie Pelzel also earned a point with her score of 79.5.
Fresno State secured three points from solid days by Cecily Hayes, Taylor Holstead, and Ana Bertozzi as the trio of Bulldogs earned scores of 83.5, 82.5 and 82.
The Bulldogs performed well in Reining, winning the event by a score 3-1. The comeback effort was not enough, however, as Oklahoma State held on to win the meet by a point.
Kelly Harper won the lone point for the Cowgirls with a 68.5, while OSU's Quincee Clark and Bailey Alexander tied at 70. Julianne Kelley (68), Ashley Jackson (70) and Hannah Hieber (70) all scored points for the Bulldogs to conclude the meet.
Immediately after the victory, OSU began its next meet against No. 7 SMU, starting with Flat and Horsemanship. The Cowgirls and Mustangs will finish the second half of their meet on Saturday as they compete in Fences and Reining.
