OSU Equestrian Comes Up Short Against SMU

FRESNO, Calif. – Oklahoma State's top-ranked equestrian team was defeated by seventh-ranked SMU, 10-5, on Saturday in the final meet of the fall season for OSU at the Student Horse Center.
The meet began on Friday with Flat and Horsemanship coinciding. In Flat, the Cowgirls tied, 2-2, and lost, 3-1, in Horsemanship.
The October Big 12 Flat Rider of the Month, Hope King, earned her fourth consecutive MOP honor by defeating SMU's Madi Johnson, 86.5-84.5. Abigail Brayman was beaten, 68.5-64.5, by Taylor Madden and Sydnie Ziegler lost to Miranda Seade, 84-76.5. Team captain, Katie Pelzel, picked up a point for OSU, defeating Mustang Madigan Eppink, 76.5-68.
To begin Horsemanship, Caroline Nielson lost to Nya Kearns, 73.5-71.5. Maddie Fussell picked up her third win of the season defeating Megan Waldron, 67.5-65. Natalie Vargo was narrowly beaten by Lily Anderson, 74-73.5, while Jojo Roberson dropped her point against Mallory Vroegh, 73-67.
The second half of the meet resumed on Saturday with Fences and Reining. The Cowgirls were unable to find any momentum on the day, resulting in their first loss of the season.
OSU dropped Fences, 2-1, despite King picking up her second point of the meet by defeating Taylor Madeen, 85-74. Emma Pacyna fell to Alex Pielet, 86-68, and Brayman lost to Emily Jolly, 84-80. Ziegler and Devin Seek each scored an 83, meaning no team point was awarded.
In Reining, the Cowgirls were defeated, 3-1. Quincee Clark delivered the Cowgirls' lone point in the event by defeating Dani Latimer, 71-63.5. Molly Mitchell lost to Jill Pfisthner, 70-67.5, and Kelly Harper was narrowly defeated, 71.5-71, by Taylor Zimmerman. Hannah Lovrien was beaten by Chalyce Head, 71-70.
OSU will be back in action for a Big 12 matchup against Baylor at home February 5. The Cowgirls previously defeated the Bears, 10-9, in their season opener at Waco.
