Cowboys Open Fall Season Up With Impressive First Day In Napa

NAPA, Calif. – The Oklahoma State Cowboy tennis team is competing in the ninth annual Silverado College Invitational in Napa, Calif. this weekend to open up its fall season. Three of the four Cowboys competing in singles play won on the first day of the invitational over their opponents out of San Francisco, while both OSU doubles teams picked up wins in their matches over Pacific on Friday.
Luke Hammond, a junior Cowboy, defeated Phuc Huynh of USF in a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 victory. Emile Hudd picked up his win over David Woodland in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Finally, Brady Draheim defeated his opponent, Johan Garpered in the same fashion as Hudd, 6-2, 6-1.
The only Cowboy to drop his singles match on Friday was senior Mathieu Scaglia. Scaglia fought for three sets before retiring the match to Mitch Johnson, 6-7(9), 6-4, 4-0.
In doubles play, Scaglia and Hudd teamed up to take down the Pacific duo of Akram El Sallaly and Coby McCaig, 8-6. Hammond and Draheim also formed a dynamic duo to defeat John Horoz Garner and Nathan Hampton in a 8-2 victory.
