No. 15 Cowboys Begin Season By Sweeping San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 15 Oklahoma State men's tennis team opened up its spring season in San Diego, Calif. on Sunday afternoon against the San Diego State Aztecs. The Cowboys swept the Aztecs by winning all six points possible in the dual.
Sunday started with play from the No. 1 doubles team in the country featuring Matej Vocel and Dominik Kellovsky. The Cowboy duo defeated Ignacio Martinez and Aaro Pollanen, 6-2. Mathieu Scaglia and Maxim Tybar would win the doubles point for the Cowboys in the match by taking down Arnaud Restifo and Fabian Roensdorf, 6-3.
The first singles point of the day for the Cowboys would come from Brady Draheim as he defeated Ignacio Martinez in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. No. 41 Matej Voel would take his match over Fabian Roensdorf, 6-2, 6-0. The match-clinching point came from Luke Hammond defeated David Hough, 6-2, 6-2.
Although the dual was decided in just three singles matches, SDSU and OSU would play out the rest. One of the newest Cowboys, Etienne Donnet claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory in his first match as a member of the team. Mathieu Scaglia defeated Jan Kirchhoff in a competitive match, 6-4, 7-6(4), followed by No. 91 Dominik Kellovsky winning his match in three sets against Aaro Pollanen, 6-4, 7-6(6), 10-7.
This marks the third consecutive win for the Cowboys over the Aztecs thanks to wins in 2014, 2017 and again on Sunday. Oklahoma State also holds an overall record of 7-4 after the victory.
The Cowboys will play again on Jan. 17 when they compete in a double-header against Lamar and Bryant. The double-header will also mark the home-opening matches for OSU with the match against Lamar beginning at 1:30 p.m. and the match against Bryant at 6 p.m. in the Greenwood Tennis Center.
